Dan Hawkins Fired

Dan Hawkins, is now the former head football coach at the University of Colorado.

As you may recall, Dan Hawkins was the coach that put Boise State on the map.  In 2005, he was hired after Gary Barnett was fired for numerous reasons, pick one:

  • The sex and alcohol recruiting scandal,
  • Dismissive comments about placekicker Katie Hnida, who alleged that she had been raped by a teammate,
  • Oh and then there’s that 70-3 beatdown Texas gave them in the Big XII Championship.

Well Hawkins’ tenure at Colorado looked nothing like his years at Boise State, where he went 53-11.  Hawkins never even had a winning season at Colorado, and just like Barnett, an unforgivable loss to a Big XII opponent may have done him in.  The Buffaloes surrendered a 28 point fourth quarter lead to Kansas on Saturday, allowing 35 points in the 4th quarter to lose by a touchdown.

Hawkins, was often seen as a quirky genius in his years at Boise,  but will definitely be most remembered for this tirade at Colorado:
