Farewell Favre… For the last time???

Favre, who filed retirement papers with the league Monday, is one step closer to finally hanging it up.... for good

by Chris McCoy

He seems so sincere this time. So much so that I want to believe him.

Alex Marvez of foxnews.com reported that Favre has already filed his retirement papers with the NFL, followed by NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirming the news to The Associated Press on Monday.

So what does this all mean? Not much in Favre talk, he filed retirement papers with the league after his 2008 season with the Jets, only to return with the Minnesota Vikings for the 2009 season.

All indications are that Favre has no desire to play another year, following a disappointing and injury plagued 2010 campaign – the streak’s over, the Vikes finished in last place, women are coming out of the woodworks claiming harassment, and his sister’s caught up in a drug scandal.

But what if? – seems to be the elephant in the room in any Brett Favre retirement conversation.  What if the NFL locks out and they only end up playing 8-10 games, would Favre come back for a shortened season? Hopefully there’s no lockout so none of us has to listen to this Favre comeback talk anymore. Favre is a legend on the grid iron, but it may just be time to hang it up.  We salute one of the greatest to ever do it, but please no more drama.

Y’all call me when he goes into the Hall of Fame. That’s the only way he is going to prove it to me. He should have ended it when it was good.
