Final Four Teams' Tournament Resumes

by Chris McCoy

This has been the craziest tournament in recent memory.

There are no #1’s left standing. This is the highest combination of seeds ever in the Final Four, with 11, 8, 4, and 3 seeds representing the four regions. EVERYBODY’S brackets are screwed, including mine, hell out of the 5.9 million people that participated in the ESPN Bracket Challenge, only two of them had this Final Four, and those people clearly must be alums of VCU or tweekers.

Out of the four elite 8 games this weekend, the favorite only won one of them, and this UConn team is seemingly unstoppable in tournament play (12-0 this year). My Mulligan Final Four picks even missed, as the only team I picked correctly was Butler, but hey, I’m not like the “experts” I’ll call myself out when I’m wrong, many of the “experts” missed on ALL FOUR.

I didn’t come here to pull cards though, all of these teams are deserving of being here if you check their tourney resumes. All four teams Butler faced had top 20 RPIs and at least 25 wins. Kentucky and Connecticut both beat three conference champs. Virginia Commonwealth won five games, and each one was in one of the power six conferences.

What’s amazing is that all of these teams struggled in the regular season, but gelled and got hot at the right time. VCU finished 4th in their conference and lost 5 of their last 8 regular season games. Kentucky went 2-6 on the road in the SEC, including a late loss at Arkansas. UConn lost 6 of their last 11 regular season games, and Butler lost 4 of 5 in late January to the likes of Wright State, Milwaukee-WisconsinValparaiso, and Youngstown State. All of that means nothing now, though because all of these teams played and beat great competition in March.

Who do you think has the best tournament resume out of the four? Review the graphic and leave your comments below. We’re interested in seeing what you think. Personally I’m rolling with Butler.
