Ron Artest's Planking Fail

by RJP Staff

Planking has swept the nation.

What was once only an international game, has Americans planking in some crazy places. If you don’t know the idea is to lie down face first with ur body straight and hands on your side.

Many African Americans have come out against planking, as the word planking derives from the slave ships: slaves were packed tightly together, chained to planking boards. Many others see it as just good clean fun.

Athletes are even starting to plank. In the Gallery below teammates Dwight Howard and Gilbert Arenas are having loads of fun in their “plank off”. That’s a good sign for their chemistry. Dwight was quoted as saying, “Sometimes guys are there whole-heartedly and then sometimes I’ve had teammates allow people getting in their ears and things like that effect the way that they play and approach the game.”

A statement like that makes you stop and think, “Who’s he talking about?” If he’s calling his teammates out, so that Orlando GM Otis Smith will make some moves, but spending time and having fun planking with Arenas, chances are he wants Arenas to stick around… or knows that his contract is so hard to move, he better get used to him if he’s going to stay in the Magic Kingdom himself.

There’s nothing like bonding with a good old fashion twitter game right? Even Ron Artest aka Metta World Peace is giving planking a shot. He clearly has no idea what he’s doing though.

What do you think about planking? Is it good clean fun? Should black people resist the urge because of the historical context? Who planks the best between Arenas and Howard? Let us know in the comments below!
