Procrastinator Alert: Who To Start In Week 10

9 Nov

By Curtis M. Gaines

Wow, that’s all I can say about last week’s performances from Cassel and the Chiefs that was mind-blowing as was the “well-oiled” offense of the Philadelphia Eagles that heavily relied on the legs of LeSean McCoy and all but deserted their passing game. So, where do we stand this week with them and other fantasy delights that have tickled us pink or wretched all hope of adding a “W” to our win column? Let’s begin this week’s analysis with:

Eagles vs Cardinals

Eagles have the best match-up a doctor could order after falling to the Bears last week. The Cardinals are the fourth worst pass defense and 16th against the run. In comparison the Eagles are equally vulnerable to the ground attack as evidenced by their 23rd ranked run defense. However the Eagles have a top 10 offense and should utilize most of their weapons

Starts:

Beanie Wells
Projection: 80 RUSH, 4 rec. 35 yards TD

SLEEPER ALERT

Early Doucet – (55 Targets) Has been consistent as the Cards second option and should be considered a WR3 or Flex start
Projection: 8 rec. 75 yards TD

DeSean Jackson, fantasy trade bait???

I know last week I suggested that Jason Avant would have an incredible game against the Bears but that never came to fruition, however this week as I am with other picks, I’m sticking with Avant and suggest him as a flex play. Desean Jackson is disappearing more and more each week, and the risk is outweighing the reward at this point. As a Jackson owner I am more and more leaning towards sitting him for the rest of the season and praying he has a breakout game that I can use as leverage to trade him before deadlines. The match-up is favorable for Jackson, Maclin and Avant but I strongly feel as if most of the targets will go to Maclin, Avant and Celek. Jackson made two key drops last week that I feel may make Vick more cautious when making his reads from here on out. I feel until Jackson can be more consistent he is no better a start than Torrey Smith at this point in the season. To elaborate more consider these statistics, Desean Jackson has 29 receptions on 58 targets but Jason Avant has 33 receptions on 46 targets! How can that be possible? 12 more targets but less receptions? Until that stat line goes up I’m afraid the time has come to sit Jackson.

Jason Avant – Flex or Start
Projection: 6 rec. 80 yards TD

Jeremy Maclin – MUST START
Projection: 8 rec. 95 yards TD (conservative projection)

Keep in mind that Boldin scorched Arizona for 145 yards and 2 scores two weeks ago.

Chargers vs Raiders

Okay, I agree Philip Rivers is stinking it up, but from a fantasy perspective he is doing fine. A soft Raider secondary should equal a healthy showing from Rivers this week as long as Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates are healthy. Ryan Mathews is expected to play and the Raiders give up plenty on the ground (139.6 yards per game). Oakland has also given up nine scores on the ground which makes goal line specialist Micheal Tolbert a good flex play this week.

As for the Raiders… it’s too early to know which receiver will emerge as Palmer’s favorite receiver so if you’re one of those fantasy owners that jumped at Jacoby Ford, I strongly advise to be cautious this week. Beware of starting Carson Palmer against the Chargers they only give up 192 yards per game through the air. Micheal Bush will see the bulk of the carries with Darren McFadden still hampered by injury and he makes an excellent RB2 or Flex start.

Bush's best game of the season? Week 7: 17 car for 99 yds; 2 rec for 12 yds.

Start:

Philip Rivers
Projection: 320 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT

Ryan Mathews
Projection: 95 Rush, 4 rec. 25 yards 1 TD

Vincent Jackson
Projection: 5 rec. 95 yards 1 TD

Micheal Tolbert
Projection: 50 Rush, 5 rec. 15 yards 2 TD

Micheal Bush
Projection: 90 Rush 2 TD

SLEEPER ALERTS:

Patrick Crayton: Malcolm Floyd will sit this week meaning more targets toward Crayton, by no means do I suggest inserting him into your lineup, but if you have a need he should prove to be more than adequate to fill in for any bye’s or injuries and is more than likely still available in most leagues.
Projection: 6 rec. 80 yards

Denarius Moore:
Projection 4 rec. 80 yards TD

Dolphins vs Redskins

Okay let me have it, I know, I know…I said sit ALL Dolphins and lo and behold Bush, Marshall and Fasano rolled out stellar numbers. What can I say? I was wrong. Am I a believer? No, but this week I sure as hell recommend starting Dolphins. Redskins defense is weak against the run (122.6 yards per game) but strong against the pass (third in league with 25 sacks, 11th in pass defense; 219 yards per game).

Redskins RB Roy Helu had a career best and team record 14 receptions for 105 yards last week against San Francisco. Look for him to continue production out the backfield this week.

Helu's best game of the season? Week 9: 10 car for 41 yds, 14 rec for 105 yds.

Start:

Reggie Bush
Projection: 50 Rush
5 rec. 60 yards TD

Davone Bess
Projection: 5 rec. 72 yards TD

Roy Helu
Projection: 60 Rush
8 rec. 85 yards TD

Chiefs vs Broncos

Let me have it again… I said start Cassel and Baldwin and well, you saw the game. Atrocious! However, I’m still sticking to my guns and suggesting both again. Denver is giving up the second most points to wide receivers in the league and the third most to quarterbacks. Here’s a list of the quarterbacks that have torched them so far this season:

Andy Dalton: 332 yards 2 TD
Matt Hasselbeck: 311 yards 2 TD
Aaron Rodgers: 408 yards 4 TD, 2 TD Rush
Matthew Stafford: 267 yards 3 TD
Carson Palmer: 332 yards 3 TD

Again the Chiefs will be playing at home but as all AFC West divisional games both team will be playing hard and lighting up the scoreboard.

Starts:

Matt Cassel
Projection: 330 yards 2 TD 1 INTs
